Our Goal
Kids for Freedom is a non-profit organization that offers children and young people in challenging life situations a special opportunity: A week at sea, far away from the often stressful everyday life, to gain new perspectives, strengthen self-confidence and gain valuable social experience.
Our aim is not simply to give the children a break, but to offer them an environment in which they can grow – personally, emotionally and as a team – through sailing together, teamwork and new challenges. During the week, they discover new strengths, meet like-minded people and experience carefree moments full of joy: they sing, dance, swim and laugh together. These shared experiences create a sense of community that lasts beyond their time at sea.
Even after the trip, their well-being remains important to us. Through media support and personal contact, we want to sustain the positive experiences and give the children courage for their future.
Target group
Not every child can look back on a carefree childhood. That is why we have made it our mission to support children from children’s homes, socially disadvantaged children and children in material or emotional need in these situations. Together we sail across borders – not only across the waves of the sea, but also across the barriers of origin, language and culture.
What really counts is community, trust and new experiences.
The week on board
For a week, the K4F fleet sails along the coast and heads for a new, beautiful bay every day. There is always something to do on board and ashore – whether it’s setting sail, cooking together or taking part in the varied games and small events that make for an exciting and unforgettable time.
Of course, living on a boat for a week is not possible without clear rules and tasks that are distributed evenly and fairly among all crew members. Life on the boat and sailing with the wind only works if everyone helps out and pulls together.
International
The participants in this week come from many different countries and cultures – this makes every trip unique. Communication becomes an exciting adventure: English is usually the common language, but the children often develop their own creative ways of communicating. Sometimes, at the end of the week, a completely new language is even created that only they understand!
K4F specifically encourages this openness and creativity, as it shows that communication goes far beyond words. Through shared experiences, the children grow together, discover what they have in common and forge friendships that build bridges across borders and open up new horizons.
